            ****PRESS RELEASE****

FINALLY WE CAN BEGIN OUR WORK!!

On the 21st September 2011, The Ben Manning Music Foundation entered the register of charities in the UK with the charity commission, Charity Number 1143899. The Ben Manning Music Foundation was set up to inspire musical talent in generations that would not otherwise have common access to the art and science of music.

Its aims are to provide “FOR THE PUBLIC BENEFIT, THE ADVANCEMENT OF EDUCATION IN MUSIC WITHIN LEEDS AND SURROUNDING AREAS, IN PARTICULAR BUT NOT EXCLUSIVELY BY THE PROVISION OF MUSIC LESSONS, MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS AND FUNDING TO INDIVIDUALS IN FINANCIAL HARDSHIP, WHICH THEY COULD NOT OTHERWISE AFFORD THROUGH LACK OF MEANS”

Since the Foundation was set up in February 2011, it has been the primary goal of the charity to reach registration stage to allow us to provide a better service to the community. By now having registration as a charity the Foundation can begin its work on providing access to the music arts via education, rehearsal space, and provisions for musical instruments to those who could not otherwise afford.

The Foundation aims to provide a service to the local community of Leeds and the surrounding areas. This provision of service to the local community pays back to those who support and provide us with the means to offer this service to the public.

The Ben Manning Music Foundation and its trustee’s would like to thank everyone of the public who has so far supported our cause, and aided us to getting to this point today. We have spent time in some great communities, and met some fantastic people right through to the venue owners who allow us to use their space to fundraise for the Foundation. We have worked with some fantastic companies so far, and as a result we have raised in excess of £12,500 for the Foundation. If it wasn’t for all the hard work and determination of the volunteers and public the Foundation would not be here today.

            THE FOUNDATION HITS BRIGSHAW SCHOOL

            Picture
After all the months of planning and getting ourselves ready the 1st foundation project went underway.

Brigshaw School Allerton Bywater was our 1st school to benefit from the foundations school community projects. 17 students all took part in an immersion day that consisted of a whole day of band practice assisted by local school professional band 'The Artists' who all took individual classes of students to teach them the basics to instruments the students had never played before. During the day the students rotated around the individual classes at 45 minute intervals. Throughout the day the students gave continuous positive feedback on how they were progressing. In light of this at the end of the day the students performed as individual groups to a larger hall of students showing the progress they had made.

After a successful day we identified key musical talent, and have begun to see how we as a foundation can help them progress further. It is a great achievement of the foundation, and we hope to host many more of these band practice sessions in the near future.

If you want to get the foundation to a school near you please send us an email: office@benmanning.org.uk and we will be all too happy to look into the prospect for you.

            ROCK SCHOOL FOR CALEB

In June 2011, we went to Brigshaw High School, Allerton Bywater, and took a class of 17 students on a band practise. Some of the students already played instruments, but others didnt.

Out of the day we identified one student to be a part of the foundation scholarship program, and as a result we sent young Caleb Hill to Rock School for the week at Factory Street Studios, Bradford.

The studio's run by Alex and Amy Eden, who have a rock school that runs throughout the summer holidays. Each week a new set of students join the program to go through learning to play, writing their own material, producing a CD design, and completing a photo shoot. Everything you would do in the rock and roll world.

Caleb came out of the week with a gig that was performed in front of friends and families of all those who attended. It was a great achievement of the foundation and we are very proud of Caleb and his fantastic representation at the rock school of us.

Next for caleb is his drum kit, we will be providing him with a drum kit  before the month is out.
